Patient Navigation Services
When you’re facing breast cancer, you want to feel supported throughout the entire process, from treatment to on-going support. At Advocate Health Care, a dedicated team of breast health specialists, nurse navigators and dietitians are there with you at every step of your journey.
Breast Health Specialists & Navigators
Providing our patients with the safest and best care is our top priority. Our teams of breast health specialists are highly-trained oncology nurses and imaging technologists who help navigate your care—from diagnosis to follow-up treatment.
Our specialists can help:
- Offer educational resources and materials about cancer
- Find facilities and services closer to home
- Provide emotional support when you need it most
- Sit in on appointments and procedures so you don’t feel like you’re going it alone
- Connect you with support group information and other resources
Our navigators work with patients in a very similar manner to our breast health specialists. The only difference is that their support service extends to all types of cancer patients.
These navigators act as a support system to provide help with scheduling appointments, coordinating care and guiding you through your treatment plan.
Navigators can also help with any of the following:
- Arranging transportation
- Explaining terms and procedures
- Arranging translators
- Arranging child care or elder care
- Finding financial resources, including financial aid, low-cost counseling and wigs

Undergoing chemotherapy or radiation makes nutrition especially important. Navigating your new nutrition needs with guidance can make a big difference during treatment. At Advocate, before any treatment begins, registered dietitians develop a personal dietary plan to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce the side effects of treatment medication.
Dietitians can also help you avoid conditions such as excess weight loss, dehydration, malnutrition and fatigue. If something changes during treatment, they are ready with alternatives specifically tailored to your care plan.
The medicines and therapies you’ll receive treat your body, but at Advocate, we also treat your spirit. You do not have to face breast cancer alone. Support groups can offer everything from fitness and nutrition services to conversation and engagement with others to unique and hands-on services like makeup and skin care classes.
